A National Festival in the Heart of Wiltshire.
Four days of the best in folk song, music, dance and traditions in the heart of Wiltshire
Chippenham's biggest annual event – the folk festival, now in it's 49th year has an incredible 200+ events in just one bank holiday weekend. The festival is for everyone who wants to explore the varied range of activities that are on offer.
Throughout the weekend there are dedicated events for children and teenagers, workshops to try out different dance styles or improve instrumental playing, intimate concerts where it is possible to meet the musicians, storytelling, folk dances, wild ceilidh dances, displays of many dancing styles from the British Isles and beyond, and the chance to let your hair down for the weekend in the company of some of the friendliest people you'll ever chance to meet.
The crux of the event – which still manages to contribute more than £1million to the local economy each year – is to feature the vast array of music and customs to be found throughout England. Other folk festivals may feature folk-rock bands, cross-cultural musicians, and representatives of music from throughout the British Isles, whereas Chippenham Folk festival has stuck to its roots as a predominantly English Folk Festival.
It's a celebration of all that's great about the cultural history, tangible customs and wonderful music of England.
The festival is unique among the hundreds of folk festivals in the British Isles.
Come along and give us a try ~ you won't regret it.
