Join Fiona Robertson, author of Stone Lands (a Telegraph Best Book of 2025), on a tour of Britain's most spectacular and atmospheric prehistoric sites.

It's not just about Stonehenge… there are thousands more standing stones across the country and most of them are free to visit, won't entail sitting in a traffic jam or queuing with hordes of other visitors. From the folkloric stone circles of the Land's End to the windswept silvery giants of the Isle of Lewis, Britain is full of marvellous ancient places. Sharing photos from her many megalith-hunting expeditions, Fiona speculates about the motivations of the ancient builders as well as exploring the profound appeal the stones still exert on us today, from their enchanting legends to the way they act as metaphors for our own strength and endurance. She talks about her personal story, explaining how these incredible survivals from prehistory have offered her a source of joy and inspiration, as well as providing solace in the very worst of times.

Fiona is a writer, editor and committed megalith enthusiast. In a previous life, she was Publisher of Watkins, where the list she oversaw leaned heavily into her interests in folklore, folk tales and, of course, standing stones.
