Swindon Spring Festival has been reimagined as a virtual mini festival, with talks and events broadcast online.
For a quarter of a century, the Swindon Festival of Literature has made May a high spot on Swindon’s cultural calendar.
With its terrific track record, proven support, and fabulous following, the Festival of Literature has now expanded into the Swindon Spring Festival – of literature and the arts!
Because the next national Spring Bank Holiday has been moved to Friday 8th May ‘20, to mark the 75th anniversary of V-E Day, the dates of the next Swindon Spring Festival are 8th – 17th May, to fit in with this change.
At 5.30am on 8th May, in recognition of this end-of-war anniversary, the Swindon Spring Festival will begin with a lone piper, standing high on a stone plinth, facing the rising sun, in the town’s Lawn Woods, playing When the Battle’s O’er .
During the following 10 days, there will be more than 40 events showcasing literature and the arts, with a local, national, and international flavour!
These will include a wide variety of authors and speakers at the Arts Centre; a dance extravaganza with Swindon Dance at the Town Hall; a Tiny Plays project with Prime Theatre and BBC Wiltshire; a week of local authors events at the Central Library; a Children & Families Day at Lower Shaw Farm; a day-long writers’ workshop; outdoor events in Lawn Woods and Lydiard Park; the launch of a brilliant book, by a prize-winning author, that was uniquely commissioned and edited by Swindon reading groups; and a fabulous combined arts Festival Finale!
In terms of festival frolics in Swindon, there’s lots to look forward to in spring of the new decade!
Festival Director Matt Holland said: “For lovers of the arts, whether in literature or any other form, the Swindon Spring Festival is something to get excited about. And we are!
It promises to be a fantastic cultural celebration. Every day, there will be a variety of thought-provoking authors, dizzying dancers, entertaining shows, terrific talks, perilous performers, and wonderful workshops. In Swindon, in May, we’ll be spoilt for choice!”
The Festival will offer experiences that make life interesting, enjoyable, and memorable, for everyone.
Full Festival programme will be launched at midday on 26th March with details available at www.swindonspringfestival.co.uk
