About
Group Captain Gilbert Insall VC remains the only person to both win the Victoria Cross and successfully escape from a German POW camp in the First World War. Shot down twice—once after repairing his aircraft under heavy shellfire—his captivity sparked a series of daring escape attempts, including tunnelling, hiding in luggage carts, and an eventual successful break for freedom to Holland in 1917.
His extraordinary story is told by his Great Nephew, Dr Tony Insall, historian and visiting professor at King's College London. Join him at the Army Flying Museum at 7pm on Monday 23rd February to find out more.
You will be given the option to book a pre-lecture dinner of Chicken, Bacon and Leek pie with chips, peas and gravy in the Museum's Apache Café at 6pm - bookings must be made by Friday 20th February. There will be a vegetarian option available.
If you are unable to attend in person, then you can buy an online pass to watch live and join in the Q&A, or watch on catch up at your convenience afterwards.
