Ways to get fit in Wiltshire

By Emma Kirkup

We all know New Year can be the time to set some new fitness challenges and goals particularly after all the festive celebrations.

To help you out, we’ve put together a list of ten ways to get fit in Wiltshire so whether you are on holiday or just on a day trip to the county you can make the most of our countryside:

1. Kayak or canoe along the Kennet & Avon Canal

Hire a kayak or canoe from Devizes or Bradford on Avon and explore one of Wiltshire’s most important waterways.

2. Sign yourself up for the Lacock 10k

Or one of the many other running races that take place in the county. A great way to see the scenery!

3. Walk one of the long distance paths that cross the county

From the Mid Wilts Way to the Ridgeway (and many more) discover some of our long distance paths and make a break of it. Find out more on our walking page.

4. Join Events Logic in one of their triathlons

Taking place at various venues across the county including Bowood and the Cotswold Water Park. If you don’t fancy a triathlon then other options are available!

5. Take the walk from Wilton Windmill to Crofton Beam Engines

An enjoyable walk taking in part of the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath and some stunning countryside.

6. Join Corsham or Bradford on Avon for one of their walking festival weekends

With walks of varying lengths, make a break in one of these historic towns and enjoy the local countryside on foot.

7. Take part in one of Wiltshire’s cycling events from the Wiltshire Wildcat through to the Wiltshire 100

Test out your competitive side in one of our cycling events.

8. Go on a hack with one of our riding centres

Hack through some of Wiltshire’s countryside with Rein and Shine. Alternatively if it’s the basics in horse riding that you are lacking, both centres offer lessons too!

9. Cycle to a World Heritage Site with Heritage Cycle Tours

Either travel from Salisbury to Stonehenge or around the Marlborough Downs and Avebury with Heritage Cycle Tours. Your trip will include bike hire, helmets and guiding along the way.

10. Ditch the golf buggy and enjoy a round of golf in one of our top golf courses

Whether you head to the greens of Tidworth or Cumberwell or perhaps want to perfect your swing, there are lots of golfing opportunities in the county!
