Join Chippenham Museum's Creative Writing Group for a new series of monthly masterclasses. Running from September to December, each session will explore a different form of writing, including monologues, poetry, comedy, and creative storytelling. All sessions are led by professional writers and performers.
Kicking off the series: 'Imagined Lives' – Wednesday 3 September
Have you ever studied an old portrait and wondered about the life, thoughts, feelings, dreams, and memories of the person depicted in the image?
Writer Sarah Singleton was invited by the National Portrait Gallery and the National Trust to do exactly that: to study a historic portrait of an anonymous sitter and create a story based on what she could see. Now, you are invited to imagine such a life for yourself and capture the essence of this long-gone person in your own words.
Sarah is a local, award-winning novelist, poet, short-story writer, journalist, and teacher. She has published nine novels, and her first novel for teenagers, Century, won the Booktrust Teen Award.
Upcoming sessions in the series:
Wednesday 1 October – Comedy Writing with Angie Belcher: A comedy pioneer whose career has evolved from stand-up, acting, and performance to award-winning work as a coach and trainer. Angie now delivers ground-breaking workshops through the NHS.
Wednesday 5 November – Monologues with Marnie Forbes Eldridge: A storyteller, theatre practitioner, and writer. Marnie has spent 25 years acting, directing, producing, teaching, and leading workshops in drama and storytelling.
Wednesday 3 December – Poetry with Saili Katebe: A writer, performer, and workshop facilitator. Saili's work celebrates the musicality of language, the possibilities of performance and the power of storytelling.
Each session is a stand-alone workshop and costs £5 per person. Spaces are limited, so booking is essential. Please contact the museum to reserve your place.
