About
We will be holding a special evening event on Saturday the 27th of September 2025.
We'll be running our two beam engines into the twilight with lower than normal lighting in our engine house. This will give an impression of Crofton in the Georgian era when it first operated.
An evening of Astronomy: A chance to see the night sky from Crofton, which sits in a dark skies area of Wiltshire. We will be welcoming back members of Newbury Astronomy Society who will provide a variety of telescopes for adults and children to use to see the night sky. Richard Fleet of the Society will give two presentations during the evening entitled "Where are we going". Richard will give a talk about the different motions of heavenly bodies around the galaxy, collisions and more. The first lecture will be at 7.00pm and will be repeated at 8pm, so you will have plenty of opportunity to see our engines working, take in the talk and, weather permitting, to see some of those heavenly bodies.
Please dress warmly and do bring binoculars.
We'll have refreshments available from our Smithy Tea Room. We've also invited the excellent fresh Pizza makers 'Pizza Lola' back to the site, so visitors will be able to go home with both minds and stomachs filled.
Entry is £10 per adult, under 16 go free. Please visit our web site for more details about this Special Event, Crofton Beam Engines and our steaming days.
