About

Marlborough’s much-loved Summer School will return in summer 2024 with more than 500 courses and a wealth of entertainment suitable for all ages and interests.

Since the inaugural event in 1974, Marlborough College Summer School has gone from strength to strength continuing to develop and attract popular support from a wide audience.

The formula makes for a perfect family holiday, where parents can choose their own courses and entertainment knowing that the children are blissfully happy, but never far away. Evenings can be spent together or, if preferred, taking part in the numerous entertainments on offer. Summer School is about being independent together, where the problems of pleasing all the family are sorted out for you.

As always our aim is to maintain the breadth, diversity and quality of the course range available to customers, providing maximum choice across the mornings and afternoons in each of the three weeks.

The popularity of the Summer School is undoubtedly underpinned by the phrase “something for everyone”. Catering for all ages from 3 years through to our most senior students who are 90 years young, it is this blend spanning the generations and accommodating all combinations of family groups and individuals that creates our unique holiday atmosphere.

Over 400 courses range from Beginners Watercolour, Writing your Novel, Ukulele for Beginners and Learn to Fly for adults and Let’s Cook, Stay Alive Survival, Young Clayshot and Filmmaking Challenge for children.

Our comprehensive programme for young people continues to prove a winning formula and is once again packed with fun and variety to suit all ages. Dividing the children into four age bands, (Junior Troopers 3-6 years, Children’s Activities 6-9 years, Young Adventurers 9-12 years and Teenagers 13-16 years), the structure and content is carefully designed to provide an exciting adventure for each individual in a safe environment.

We welcome many overseas visitors and lasting friendships between children and adults of different nationalities are made each year, whilst the opportunity to improve their command of the English language arises not only from our English as a Foreign Language courses but through mixing and mingling with British friends and acquaintances.

For those who are coming from further afield or overseas, we provide comfortable accommodation in the College boarding houses. The price includes full board for six nights, as well as attendance at all afternoon lectures, recitals and Gala performances. The residential week begins on Sunday evening before dinner and finishes the following Saturday after breakfast.

The College facilities are available to all members of Summer School when not in use for courses. Superb sporting facilities include an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, an athletics track and much more. Some additional evening classes are available throughout the week and can be booked through the Summer School office each day.

We are pleased to present another stimulating and eclectic Gala concert series on Tuesday and Friday evenings of each week including a return visit from the ever-popular Treorchy Male Choir performing in the Chapel, The Rat Pack Vegas Spectacular Show, Collegium Regale, a close harmony group made up of the Choral Scholars of the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, Mike d’Abo, former lead singer of Manfred Mann, Piaf - The Songs, Eve Loiseau sings the songs of Edith Piaf, and our final Gala is SingaLongaShow! with The London Pops Orchestra, two guest star West End soloists and YOU as the chorus which will round off another Summer School nicely with what promises to be a fun evening! These events are ticket only so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment.

In addition, the Summer School presents daily lectures and recitals that have become a popular feature. Tickets are not required for these events but there will be a small charge on the door for visitors who are not signed up for courses in that week.

Our Friday exhibition continues to flourish and provides a perfect opportunity to view work from many of the courses, whilst enjoying music and entertainment in the wonderful setting of Court in the heart of the College.

We look forward to welcoming you!
