Beguiled and blue: Ayres to the lute

About

Music for voices and lute from the Stuart period, with Wiltshire-based early music specialists Musicke in the Ayre (voices Alysha Paterson and Alice Simmons, lutenist Din Ghani). This period saw the great shift from the intimate and delightful lute songs of Dowland and his contemporaries towards the stagey showmanship of Purcell and his peers, but the underlying sentiments don't really vary. Come and enjoy a varied selection of masterpieces from the period, sounding as fresh today as when they were written.
