Salisbury Cathedral from a distance

Are you planning a trip to Salisbury with a toddler in tow? It can be hard to know what to plan for a holiday with very young children, but luckily there are plenty of great toddler-friendly options to choose from in and around Salisbury. Here are some ideas that will suit children from as young as one or two.

Salisbury Playhouse
You'll find lots of children's theatre productions taking place at Salisbury Playhouse, including regular shows and performances aimed at toddlers and small children. Their relaxed and family-friendly shows are the ideal way to introduce young children to the theatre.

Boscombe Down Aviation Collection
Discover a huge collection of aircrafts at Boscombe Down Aviation Collection, an aviation museum where you can get hands-on exploring the planes on display! Children of all ages will love sitting in the cockpits and imagining what its like to be a real pilot. Boscombe Down Aviation Collection can be found just outside Salisbury near Old Sarum, and makes a fascinating family day out. What's more, under 5s go free.

River Bourne Community Farm
A working farm sitauted on the edge of Salisbury, River Bourne Community Farm is the perfect place to introduce your toddler to lots of exciting animals. See if you can spot all the different farm animals who live here - there are pigs, alpacas, donkeys, ducks, rabbits and guinea pigs. Or go for a walk around the farm's nature trails to stretch those little legs. The farm is free to visit, and there is a handy cafe on site so you can stop for a bite to eat.

Salisbury Museum
Under 5s go free to Salisbury Museum! Situated in the medieval King’s House in Salisbury's Cathedral Close, this fascinating museum hosts monthly Under Five's Fridays with activities for young children. Keep an eye out for their next upcoming event.

Old Sarum
Pack a picnic and head to Old Sarum for a family day out in the sunshine. Situated just 2 miles north of Salisbury, the massive Iron Age Hill fort of Old Sarum is today home to the ruins of a castle, cathedral and royal palace. Here you'll find fresh air and wide grassy spaces for children to run around and enjoy, as well as stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

And don't forget to check out our family-friendly accommodation to help you plan the rest of your Salisbury family holiday.
